DYSTOPIAN INTERVIEW: Lindsay Cummings (Author of the Murder Complex)

Q: What is/are your inspiration/s in creating the world of The Murder Complex?
A: I saw a newspaper article about a small town full of murders! I wanted to make that a futuristic book I also set it in south Florida, which is where I grew up every summer!

Q: Who is/are your inspiration/s for the characters in The Murder Complex?
A: The actress Saoirse Ronan was my inspiration for Meadow!

Q: There are a lot of dystopian novels that are releasing every month. What is the new concept added to The Murder Complex that makes it different to the others?
A: This book is very action based, and has a lot of sci-fi elements that help set it apart!

Q: If you could say one word about this book, what is it?
A: Bloody!

Q: Is there a chance that there would be a film adaptation of your book?

A: There's always a chance!

Q: Would the Murder Complex be a trilogy or a duology?
A: As of now, it's a duology, and I'm very happy about that!

Q: Have you considered writing only Meadow's POV? If no; what are the reasons you write a POV for Zepyhr, too?
A: There's a novella from Meadow's POV only, The Fear Trials, that's already out in ebook format! It was a blast. I'd love to write on from Zephyr's POV as well!

Q: The end of book one is quite a cliffhanger. What could you say about or a tease for book two?
A: I wish I could...but I can't!! The
2nd book is titled THE DEATH CODE!

BOOK SYNOPSIS:

An action-packed, blood-soaked, futuristic debut thriller set in a world where the murder rate is higher than the birthrate. For fans of Moira Young’s Dust Lands series, La Femme Nikita, and the movie Hanna.

Meadow Woodson, a fifteen-year-old girl who has been trained by her father to fight, to kill, and to survive in any situation, lives with her family on a houseboat in Florida. The state is controlled by The Murder Complex, an organization that tracks the population with precision.

The plot starts to thicken when Meadow meets Zephyr James, who is—although he doesn’t know it—one of the MC’s programmed assassins. Is their meeting a coincidence? Destiny? Or part of a terrifying strategy? And will Zephyr keep Meadow from discovering the haunting truth about her family?

Action-packed, blood-soaked, and chilling, this is a dark and compelling debut novel by Lindsay Cummings.

BOOK REVIEW:

This world of [The Murder Complex] was first introduced in the prequel novella entitled The Fear Trials. And months before this is released it already caught my attention because a) it is dystopian, b) higher death rates than birth rates, and c) it is a debut novel (most debut novel of authors I've read is really good).

The story is told in the point of view of the main characters, Meadow Woodson and Zepyhr James. From the first chapters until the end I did not see the importance of Zepyhr's POV, I'll would love to read [The Murder Complex] fully told in Meadow's point of view and also it builds up more mystery to the character of Zephyr.

In the world of [The Murder Complex] there are only two ways of dying either die of starvation or be murdered. The nanites flowing in the blood of the people are helping them fight disease and heal wounds but a scar will be left behind. At the first few chapters I didn't get the reason why in this world it is 'To Kill or Be Killed'. But almost half of the book bored me. But things got interesting when Zephyr met the moonlit girl, which he is seeing in his dreams, and it turned out to be Meadow. And 'Who to Trust?' would be the second rule for this world. And on the events that happened after that is really nail-biting, such as Zephyr being called an essential Ward, Zephyr trying to kill someone, and Meadow being transported to a mystery-filled building. And the title of the book which is [The Murder Complex] would be explained as well. And it would end in a jaw dropping and cliff hanging ending.

This book surpassed my expectations and the five months waiting for this book to be released is really worth the wait. I couldn't wait for the sequel of [The Murder Complex] which would be released next 2015. Lindsay Cummings is also writing another series called The Balance Keepers and the first book, The Fires of Calderon, would be released this September 23rd. And I might get a review form the author which I would post here on my blog.
